The ring is a voice system design solution that enhances the daily experiences of people who are blind. It enables their daily activities process be more smooth and easier. THE RESEARCH

We interviewed several people who are undertaking this disadvantages, some are born blind, some are suffering diseases that may cause blindness, such as cataract. – Key Findings –

People are frequently have typical stereotype assumption to people who blindness people, however, they want to be treated as sighted people. They are very familiar with their daily tasks, these tasks are very ordinary to them, but may seem very difficult to people who are sighted.
Detail is another big change to them, detail cleaning, money changes.Navigation is one of the most popular technology used by people who are blind, it is very useful but not sensitive enough to guide through crowds.
Navigation is one of the most popular technology used by people who are blind, it is very useful but not sensitive enough to guide through crowds. Learning new environment is a big challenge to them, the learning experience could be summarized as learning new way to destination, and explore new places.

FINAL SOLUTION

– So, What if –

We could provide a multi-function smart ring for both people who are blind and sighted. For people who are blind, this device will simplified their daily tasks as well as better serve in multi-tasking details; for people who are sighted, this device could serve as a more convenient phone. We call this device-Samantha.

  • 2. Specific transportation, muni, bart, etc. muni #
  • 3. Direction: turn left /right rather than turn to south/north
  • 4.Direction: avoid continue to 5th st., use distance and time to indicate
  • 5.Get on bus: payment method, muni card/cash;how to switch between functions
  • 6.Get off bus: avoid “next” stop, use specific location name
  • 7. Follow me: avoid message contains no direct guidance
  • 8.Destination: be more user friendly, add more details on instructions.
